Meridian Education, already with a base established in Shanghai has entered into a strategic partnership with a major education group in China. This gives the operation effectively a British presence ‘on the ground’ in China as well as the UK for all delivery and service support to UK education providers, and a local team of marketing and sales staff in China to promote educational services and products from the UK.
The team’s base is in the southern city of Guangzhou (old Canton) which is seen as China’s ‘third city’. The education group have a large independent school in the city and another in the Northern city of Tianjin, near Beijing.
Director Brian Mclean has relocated with his family to spend much of his time in China for the development of business opportunities. His teenage daughter has started attending Wellington College Shanghai, a sister school of the prestigious school in Berkshire, England.
The demand for British education is rising with the weak pound against the renminbi and a move away from USA, partly due to the country’s administration relationship with China becoming increasingly unpalatable to the Chinese.
